Managing external storages

Besides the local compute storage, you can integrate your compute cluster with a third-party storage compatible with OpenStack. This will allow you to use an enterprise-grade storage solution, as well as isolate storage from your compute nodes.

OpenStack provides multiple drivers for different storages. To see a list of supported storage drivers, refer to Supported OpenStack Cinder drivers.

The currently supported storage systems include those that utilize the OpenStack Cinder driver with support for either the iSCSI or Fibre Channel (FC) protocol, as well as storage systems using the Generic NFS Reference Driver (any storage solution with NFS support).

Limitations

• Only volumes stored on external Pure Storage1 Pure Storage, the Pure Storage P Logo, and the marks on the Pure Storage Trademark List are trademarks or registered trademarks of Pure Storage Inc. in the U.S. and/or other countries. and NetApp® devices can be reverted from snapshots. Snapshot reversion is not available for volumes on other external storage systems.
• Creating images from snapshots is not supported for volumes on external storage systems.
