Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 6.3 Update 1 (6.3.1-91)

Issue date: 2025-01-27

Applies to: Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 6.3

Virtuozzo Advisory ID: VZA-2025-003

1. Overview

In this release, Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure provides a range of new features that cover improvements in the compute service, core and object storage, as well as monitoring and alerting. Additionally, this release delivers stability and security improvements, and addresses issues found in previous releases.

2. New Features

  • [Compute service] New guest OS support. Added support for the following guest operating systems:

    • Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

    • Debian 11.x and 12.x

    • CentOS 9.x Stream

    • Oracle Linux 8.x and 9.x with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Red Hat Compatible Kernel

  • [Compute service] Support for Kubernetes version 1.31.

  • [Core storage] Dynamic chunk allocation when a chunk server is out of space. Enhanced storage behavior by introducing dynamic allocation of a new chunk when the current chunk of a data stream is located on an out-of-space chunk server. This helps to maintain efficient data streaming and reduce the risk of write failures due to exhausted storage.

  • [Object storage] Erasure coding redundancy change for object storage. It is possible to change a redundancy scheme for object storage, including the encoding mode, tier, and failure domain. Such a configurable redundancy scheme improves cost-efficiency for object storage in a growing cluster (for example, switching from the 3+2 encoding mode to 7+2 reduces storage overhead by 38%). The re-encoding progress can be monitored on the “Reencoding overview” Grafana dashboard.

  • [Monitoring and alerting] Storage space and redundancy warning. Introduced a proactive warning mechanism in core storage that alerts users if a node release or cluster update may result in insufficient storage space or compromised data redundancy. Before initiating an update or releasing a node, the system evaluates the current storage levels and redundancy configurations. If there is a potential lack of storage space or failure domains, a clear warning is displayed to allow users to take corrective actions.

3. Important Notes

  • Kubernetes version 1.27 is no longer supported. Kubernetes 1.28 will be deprecated in future releases. Update to the currently supported version 1.29 or newer.

  • The HTTP status code for Compute API failures has changed. The HTTP code 502 is now returned instead of 521.

4. Bug Fixes

  • A stability fix for the S3 service. (VSTOR-88635)

  • A VM created during migration has incorrect instance mapping. (VSTOR-89280)

  • Fixed an issue with the application credentials. (VSTOR-92413)

  • Improved messaging for increasing a VM volume when the quota is exceeded. (VSTOR-94824)

  • Fixed the progress reporting after a backup fails to be uploaded to an external storage. (VSTOR-95741)

  • Fixed extending a volume for multipath devices. (VSTOR-95905)

  • A stability fix for Backup Gateway. (VSTOR-96883)

5. Known Issues

  • VMs are in the error state after a failed live and cold migration attempt. (VSTOR-97170)

6. Installing the Update

You can update Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure in the SETTINGS > UPDATES section of the admin panel. Placing nodes in the maintenance mode is required to obtain this update.
